I have always been fascinated by the Scottish mythology around Selkies. Selkies are shapeshifters, transforming between seal and human form. In their human form they are graceful, kind natured and amorous. Selkies entice any humans who come across them to fall in love with them. There have been tales of Selkies saving children and fishermen who fall into the sea. Moray seal has been inspired by this folklore and sits on his barnacle encrusted rock surveying the waves crashing on the sandy shoreline.
Moray and his rock are approximately 15cm in length and 12cm in height. He has been needle felted and sewn into for added texture. His eyes are glass. The giant pebble rock has been wet felted and then stitched into to add seaweed, barnacle, lichen and shell details all around. There is a Wild & Wool fabric label sewn in.
Sorry this seal and rock piece is not a toy and unsuitable for children under 12, due to possible choking hazards.
